My friend in Europe told me that the police have been letting the Islamic's protest the political cartoons... I say good. Let them VOICE their feelings and protest VERBALLY the political cartoons. As long as all they are doing is protesting peacefully, I have no problem whatsoever. If however, these aren't peaceful protests but VERBAL THREATS - - then something must be done. A louder voice must say "you can protest and state your case/disagree but you will not be allowed to make death threats or carry out death threats period. Why on God's green earth can't these people see the difference between a political cartoon, which was an effort to COMMUNICATE and an all or nothing mentality that resorts to hatred and violence? If you don't like what that paper printed - print your own paper and/or don't subscribe. GET A LIFE ALREADY. As you can see, you have yet to plumb the depths of my passion when it comes to someone, anyone trying to force their views on me. And I feel badly for all the people who live in these countries, states, cities, neighborhoods where one loud mouthed group of people is trying to tell the rest how to live. In fact, when we went over to Iraq I felt that we shouldn't try to bring democracy to the Iraqi's. I felt it would have been more effective to sit down with them and say "let's find out what is good about your culture and elevate that - feed that and in doing so perhaps we'll make it a better place for your people to live. And this is not because I don't believe in democracy, it's because I don't like the idea of us trying to force others to live a certain way anymore than I want to be forced. Obviously, the killing has to stop, but surely there have to be good things about their way of life or they wouldn't have lasted this long to begin with. Like, let's find you a good king and go from there. Furthermore, I'm afraid that trying to change their culture will fail ultimately and I don't like fighting losing battles. Okay, now you know what I think about it.
